Learn how to safely use the professional-quality woodshop machines at Clear Creek Makerspace and take home a hardwood picture frame that you built in this hands-on workshop! We will work on hardwood selection, measuring frame sizes, cutting rabbets and miters, assembly, finishing, and more. This course covers the essentials for creating a beautiful, durable frame to showcase your favorite artwork or photos.
Materials and supplies will be provided for you, including a selection of hardwood, acrylic panels, backer board, and hangers. I'll give you a fun 8x10" poster or you're welcome to bring your own artwork or photo up to 11x14" and you will build a custom frame for it!

Learn new skills while building a beautiful hardwood keepsake box. In this hands-on workshop, you will be guided on how to safely use the professional-quality woodshop machines at Clear Creek Makerspace.
Our very first challenge will be to craft custom marquetry for your lid panel, up to 5x8". You will create a simple design and decorate your panel with either hand-cut or CNC laser assisted marquetry!
Step-by-step, you will learn how to veneer your own panels, grain match layout techniques, cut seamless miters for a box, grooves for panels, decorative keys, cutting the lid from an enclosed box, fitting hinges for your lid, as well as sanding and finishing.
Materials and supplies will be provided for you, including a selection of hardwood lumber, veneer, MDF panels, and hardware.
5 hour, hands-on workshop

Learn how to safely use 60W and 130W CNC lasers at Clear Creek Makerspace and take home two 4x4" custom coasters that you built in this hands-on workshop! The tops of the coasters will have a marquetry design of your choosing and the cork backs will be engraved with your custom text. I will guide you on how to use LightBurn to vectorize images and set up layers as well as safe and proper use of the CNC laser machines.
Materials and supplies will be provided for you, including a selection of hardwood veneers, plywood substrate, cork, and finishing supplies. I will provide a selection of marquetry designs you can choose from. The custom engraving can be any text of your choice.
2 hour, hands-on workshop

I will teach you the fundamentals of how to mill raw lumber and safely use the stationary woodworking equipment through hands-on experience. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this workshop covers essential techniques and tools for successful woodworking projects!
As part of the course, you'll learn:

Miter saw for rough cross cuts
Band saw for rough rip cuts
How to effectively use a jointer and planer
Ripping and cross cuts on a table saw

Master the CNC laser machine and gain proficiency with Rhino 3D and LightBurn. I will teach you everything from how to do the basic functions to advanced techniques on wood and other materials. This course meets once a week over the semester and will covers topics such as:

Elevate your woodworking with the art of inlay! I will introduce a variety of techniques to embellish your fine woodworking projects with stunning detail. Learn to cut, install, and engrave intricate inlays using hand tools and power tools while working with materials such as exotic wood veneers, mother of pearl, and reconstituted stone. Through guided instruction and hands-on experimentation, you'll develop your own unique inlay style and bring your designs to life.
